Camera and drone rentals for Wickenburg productions

Wickenburg is forty-five miles up Grand Avenue with no freeway, and it is the reason the delivery map does not stop at the Loop 303. A real western town with a jail tree, an 1895 depot, a restored ghost town at Vulture City and the guest ranches that made it the Dude Ranch Capital of the World, it books period pieces, rodeo coverage, ranch hospitality films and the kind of landscape work that needs a drone and a long lens.

Shooting in Wickenburg

Ghost town, rodeo arena and river preserve.

At this distance most shoots run several days, so the fourth day free and the seven-for-five week are built into the quote before anyone asks. They also leave the counter with more batteries than a city order, because Vulture Mine Road has no outlets.

01

Vulture City and the western plate

Original and restored 1800s buildings, from the 1884 Assay Office to the Cookhouse, twelve miles down Vulture Mine Road, with Vulture Peak behind them. Period films, music videos and brand work that wants dust and history shoot here with a cine body, the Vespid primes, a Dana Dolly for the slow reveal past the Assay Office, and, with Vulture City's approval, a drone for the mountain.

02

Rodeo and the guest ranches

Gold Rush Days in February, the Everett Bowman Rodeo Arena on Constellation Road and Rancho de los Caballeros book event coverage and hospitality films. Long lenses and high frame rates for the arena, a gimbal for the trail ride, wireless lavs for the wranglers, and comms for a crew spread across a fairground.

03

The Hassayampa and the long light

The Hassayampa River Preserve's 770 acres hold cottonwood and willow forest and Palm Lake, a rare green plate in the desert. It is a Maricopa County park open Wednesday to Sunday from 7 or 8am by season, and a commercial shoot needs a county Special Use Permit. Plan a long day, a battery kit sized for it, and a delivery the day before.

Good to know

Wickenburg questions, answered.

Yes. It is one of the longest runs on the map, forty-five miles each way with no freeway, and it is quoted as such. A shoot this far out usually runs several days, and with the fourth day free the delivery is a small part of the order. Pickup at the Glendale counter is the alternative, and Grand Avenue runs straight there.

Plan on two packs for every one you would use in a city, and a dual charger running off the vehicle or the ranch house overnight. For a cine body, a monitor and a transmitter over a long day, that works out to around eight V-mount packs. Heat is hard on batteries, so keep the spares in the shade.

Wickenburg sits well outside the Valley's controlled airspace, so a Part 107 pilot can usually fly without an authorization. Vulture City is gated private property and allows drones only with its approval in advance. The Hassayampa River Preserve is now a Maricopa County park, where park rules keep model aircraft to designated areas and a commercial shoot needs a county Special Use Permit, so clear it with the county first.
